No Plan to Seize Scorecards, says IBPS Director [Exclusive]

ibps-director-interview-bankexamsindia.com IBPS, by implementing the common written exams has revolutionized the bank recruitment process, made selections more transparent than ever & shortened the time taken by banks to fill vacant posts.Just like every new initiative, questions continued to haunt many bank job aspirants who raised them through comments on our website, facebook page & emails.

To provide you with proper answers, we at BankExamsIndia.com recently fixed an director- ibps-interview-bankexamsindia.comappointment with the man behind the institute - Mr.M.Balachandran (Director, IBPS).

Apart from explaining the process in detail, he was also patient enough to clarify the doubts commonly asked by candidates that were compiled by us.

Extract from the interview are below,

Will the scorecards issued by IBPS be seized after joining a bank?
As of now, candidates are asked to execute a service bond after joining a bank for certain amount who agree not to quit the organization for few years. This is only to discourage candidates hopping from one place to another as it puts the entire recruitment process into jeopardy.

For example, somebody joining Indian bank & leaving after 6 months to join other bank upsets the whole planning process.Having the person recruited, trained & posted in a location, if that fellow suddenly leaves Indian bank – they will have to fill such vacancies through fresh recruitments.
So, I have no idea whether they will freeze the scorecards. If any bank plans to follow such a rule they would inform in advance & candidates can decide whether to join them or not.
Has IBPS devised any such procedure for seizure of cards?
IBPS does not have any role to play here.It will be a decision of individual banks & if they want to implement it, they would inform it upfront (in the notification)

What happens to the old scorecard if a person clears the next exam & gets a new one?
The main idea of conducting more than 1 exam in an year (two exams/ yr for PO & clerks) is to provide an opportunity for upgrading, if they feel the marks obtained are not good enough to compete with others.

In the 2nd exam, if a candidate scores less marks than the previous, he is free to quote the scores obtained in the previous exam to apply for bank jobs.
Within the validity of 1 year - whatever score a person feels is best, they can adopt it.The choice is left to the individual. There is no compulsion to use only the scorecard from the recent exam.
If candidates have 2 scorecards & both are within the 12 months validity period, they can use any of the both.

When shall we expect the clerk exam results to be released?
It may be announced by next week (anytime between Feb 24 – 29).Around 35 lakh candidates had appeared for the test & processing has reached the final stages.Once its complete, it shall be out.

What about the next IBPS PO exam?
We will be conducting the CWE for PO/ MT posts in the month of June 2012

- End of Part 1 -

Due to the presence of large content, we have divided this interaction & hence - Second part of this interview shall be published in the next few days, wherein the director answers about,
  • Eligibility conditions fixed by banks & IBPS
  • Scores & Cut-offs
  • No. of vacancies etc.,

IBPS PO Exam: Scores of Disqualified Candidates Released

omr answer sheet for bank exams, how to answer bank exams After a brief lull, IBPS is back in news as the institute has opened its gates for those who did not clear the PO common written exam to know their scores.Successful candidates were sent scorecards that had details about their performance.Based on the total marks, banks have also issued recruitment notices to fill vacancies.

To apply for bank PO jobs, IBPS had conducted a pan India written test for which the results were announced in the month of December 2011 that saw 1 lac pass the exam out of 10 lac applicants.
By launching the facility to view exam scores online, unsuccessful candidates could know their weak areas & improve them while appearing for the next exam.
Here, we shall see some of the common scenarios that would have lead to your disqualification (screenshot of result page shown below).

Minimum qualifying score

  • A person must have secured the minimum score fixed by IBPS or above it (24 for General, 21 for others).Read IBPS score calculation methods
  • If the score is not above the required limit in any one section, you would be considered as ‘FAIL’
  • In such a case, descriptive test will not be evaluated too.
ibps bank exam score, ibps po exam results, ibps common exam scores

Why 0?

Some are shocked to see 0 as score in certain papers & argue they have attended maximum no. of questions in those sections. But there are other ‘factors’ such as,
  • Negative marks: We think this could have played a vital role in bringing down your score as each wrong answer will reduce 0.25 marks.
    • What matters most is the no. of correct answers, than the the number of answered questions.

Lost in descriptive

The descriptive test is taken up for evaluation, only if you have minimum scores in all subjects. At the same time, it is necessary for a candidate to qualify in descriptive section also for being declared ‘PASS’
  • Some have cleared all subjects but failed to get shortlisted as their score in descriptive test was below the specified cut-off.
    • This part contains writing long essays, comprehension etc., that test one`s english skills.Infact many had complained about lack of time after the exam (See IBPS PO exam review based on feedback)
Check your marks (non-selected) with your roll no., password or birth date at the website here

Revaluation possible?

Many applicants who have lost their chance by just 1 or 2 marks are enquiring with us about re-checking & re-evaluation of answer sheets.
Unfortunately, there is NO PROVISION given by IBPS to apply for revaluations & hence it is not possible. To improve your current scores – you will have to appear for the next PO common exam.

IBPS Cutoffs for PO Exam ; Calculation Steps Revealed

calculating marks, calculating bank exam marks, calculating ibps exam marks How to calculate my total weighted score was a common question among those who appeared for the common written exam conducted by IBPS for PO vacancies. So what are the methods employed in awarding marks.Though the institute had specified earlier, it was not detail in nature which led to confusions among candidates once the scorecards were received.

Today, IBPS has come out with a detailed note explaining the process of how marks are calculated. In addition to this, they have also given the cut-off details.

PO Exam Cut-offs:

To clear things, IBPS seems to have released the cut-off marks that have been fixed for the 6 sections in the exam (5 objective tests +descriptive).According to the release,
  • Maximum standard score: 50 marks
  • Qualifying score (standardized): 24 (General) & 21 (SC/ST/OBC/PWD)
This means, only those who have secured above the given marks would have been sent the score sheets.Few banks have already placed this score as one of the eligibility condition.

Standardized scores:

These scores are the ones that you see in your scorecard issued by IBPS.It is derived through,
  1. Corrected score – The number of correct answers minus the negative mark for wrong answers gives the original marks.
  2. Equated score – It is a result of converting the corrected score by taking into account the level of test difficulty & applying a base form across all.
  3. The final standardized score is got by using linear transformation on the equated score.

Total Weighted Score:

This is an important parameter since candidates can send applications to banks only if they have the required TWS specified in their recruitment notifications.

Here is how the total score is derived,
Standard scores of (Reasoning + General awareness + Computer knowledge + Aptitude +  ½ of English + ½ of Descriptive)
bank exam total weighted scores

On substituting your standardized scores in the above formula gives your Total Weighted Standard Score, which is also printed on the scorecard itself.

Lowest Total Score:

Going by the qualifying scores for each section that are out, the lowest TWS that a candidate might have acquired could be,
  • General category: 120
  • All others: 105
