IBPS Clerical: Can one Apply for any State?

can i apply for other state bank jobs, clerk bank jobs question, indian banks clerk jobs doubts The common written examination for clerk jobs in 19 public sector banks are being conducted by IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) with test centres across India.Once the exam results are out, banks announce vacancy positions for which eligible candidates have to apply. Now, a questions doing rounds is ‘Can I apply for vacancies in any state’?

Looking at the readers comments on this website, our facebook page & also through email, many seem to have this doubt.Hence we have put together the rules of applying for bank clerk jobs that would help you in understanding the conditions.

What are the conditions?

Before moving further, eligibility conditions (for location) for clerical cadre given by public banks & IBPS are
  • should have appeared from a centre in a State/UT for which vacancies he/she wishes to apply
  • must possess proficiency (read/write/speak) in the official language of the State

Can I apply to other state?

In short, the answer is No.Candidates are eligible to apply only for the state where they chose to write the test.

If a person had chosen Kolkata as his test centre, he/she will be eligible to send applications for banks that advertise vacancies in West Bengal.

A similar question being asked is “I appeared for the test at a centre in a different state since I had studding/ working there. Now I have shifted back to my native place. Can I apply for the current state, where I am?” The answer shall be again, No.

To explain it with an example,
A candidate from Delhi who had taken the clerical common exam in Chennai due to some reason can apply for vacancies in the state of Tamilnadu only.
Even if you are ready to work in another state, there is another pre-requisite..

local language for clerk jobs, regional language for bank jobs Local language necessary

On selection, candidates shall be posted in any branch within a state/UT they applied for & it is necessary to be proficient in the regional language.

As clerks are the first point of contact for customers, fluency in the official language has been made a must.

So, if you are not aware of the local lingo you cannot apply for vacancies in that state.

Or wait for next exam

The above rules are not one-off but apply to all banks.
It wont be possible to apply for clerk posts across 19 public banks, if you don't fulfill any one of them as they are the minimum eligibility criteria.
As there is no facility to modify your preferred state details midway, to wait for the next clerk CWE by IBPS & register for the correct state is the only solution!

No doubt, missing the recruitments will be a costly lesson for those who hadn't read the exam advertisement carefully

  • Karnataka Bank
have agreed to fill their vacancies by picking candidates who clear the all India common examinations for entry level jobs in Indian banks.

When to Expect?

Although these private banking institutions have approved of using the system, it will take some months to actually start recruiting through CWE & scorecards.

The main reason citied by the banks are their ongoing recruitments which have reached final interview stages. So only after they complete the current hires, will they come under the CWE umbrella.

For the next IBPS PO exam scheduled to happen in the month of June 2012, we may expect some announcement about the inclusion of private banks.

How many Vacancies?

Unlike public sector banks that announce vacancies in the range of 1000-2000 in one go, these private bankers may fill up only in few hundreds. For the current year, KVB plans to add 800,CSB 350 & TMB 300, it is stated.

With a large pool of candidates, it is natural for organizations to select & make best use of the available talent. We are seeing exactly that in the case of bank jobs.

IBPS to Conduct Common Exam for Jobs in Gramin Banks

The Institute for Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will have yet another responsibility in bank recruitments. The government of India has informed regional rural banks (RRB) about its decision to assign IBPS conduct a common written test for posts that fall vacant in their branches.By this communiqué, the present system of RRB recruitment is expected to undergo some major changes.

In 2010, the finance ministry during an event announced the introduction of common written examination for entry level bank jobs in public sector banks. As per the report on BL, the ministry has now finalized a similar process for RRB`s - most commonly known as Gramin banks.

Separate Exam?

Currently IBPS is responsible for conducting & releasing results of PO, clerical & Specialist officer common exams. So at present, there would 5 exams every year
(4 PO, clerk & 1 spec. off.)

Going by it, It may not be possible for IBPS to allow candidates who have qualified in PO or clerk exams to apply for jobs in RRB, as there are many difference that includes job profile, exam pattern & eligibility conditions.

So in all probability, IBPS may be planning to initiate a separate exam solely for the purpose of gramin banks.

Methodology

Once the new test is in place, candidates clearing the exam would be given scorecards & based on the eligibility criteria fixed by each bank, applicants can send in their applications to get shortlisted for interviews.

The entire recruitment process shall get over within 6 months compared to the longer duration it took previously.

Stay in Town

An important thing to note here is the location of these 82 rural regional banks.Unlike commercial banks, gramin banks are situated within a state catering to the needs of local people in that district. Hence the residential status/domicile & knowledge of local language will naturally become an eligibility condition.

The proposed common exam for recruitment into RRB would benefit those not interested to shift or move to other states for the sake of job.

Can Candidates with PO Score Below 160 Expect Interviews?

ibps bank exams score choices, ibps scorecards, ibps common exam scores Ever since the IBPS PO common exam results were announced, websites & discussion forums have been abuzz with questions like – I have scored 140/150/160. Will I get interview call? With each one answering his mind & predicting other person`s chances, only the pages were getting filled up.

It is not possible to predict a person`s chance since nobody knows the scores of candidates who will be applying.

Having said that, we shall provide a brief outline of how the IBPS PO exam scores/ cutoffs could travel hereafter since there is too much of uncertainty in the minds of those with TWS less than 160 & whether they can appear for bank interviews

Let us also reiterate once again, the scenarios discussed below are based on poll results, assumptions etc., & there is no guarantee that public banks will stick to this.

TWS above 164:

So far, candidates with IBPS PO score of 165+ (gen) have been shortlisted by 3 banks & hence they can be considered to posses more chance of appearing for Interviews. The Union bank of India final results were released recently making it the 1st bank to complete its recruitment process.Similarly, Syndicate & Corporation banks are also done with personal interviews.
  • Assuming 50% of candidates (which is low) above 165 join any of these banks, it would provide an opportunity for those in the range of 155 - 163 for the next banks!

Above 150:

If you hold a scorecard within scores of 150 – 160 (gen), your turn is not far.As per our analysis, we expect Allahabad bank, UCO bank & others which are yet to announce vacancies in this month to fix interview cutoffs somewhere in this range.Because by the time these banks call for interview, 65% of toppers may have joined in previous banks.
  • Some candidates may get selected in multiple banks but eventually they would join any one.In such a scenario, those banks will announce waiting list to fill vacancies where the next person in merit list would be called.
A clear picture for 150+ scorers would emerge once Bank of India (1800 PO) & Canara bank (2000 PO) announce their interview dates.

Above 130:

Based on our poll, 140-160 has the highest no. of candidates.Hence if you are within 130 – 150 (gen) follow wait & watch approach, as your chances will depend on how many above you join the banks they were selected for.
If you are concerned about wasting money by way of fees, we suggest you to apply for bank recruitments from UCO bank (1100 PO), provided eligibility conditions are satisfied.
Even if a bank that you did not apply comes with a cutoff of less than 150 – there is no need to worry as it would be evident that cutoffs have tanked & you can confidently apply for next recruitments.

Below 130:

This would cover scorecards between 105 – 130 (Gen, OBC).Since you are at the bottom of table, the wait for a chance may grow longer. The lowest score in IBPS PO exam 2011 was 120 (Gen) & 105 (others)

Based on the current trend, we presume these people might enter the interview hall for the last 3 or 4 banks. Again, you have to be watchful of the cutoffs fixed by previous banks as the situation may change.
  • There are some unconfirmed news of huge PO recruitments to be notified by Dena bank, Central bank of India & Vijaya bank within this month. If they really come out, your chances would brighten up!

OBC category:

We do not have enough data about the scores of OBC candidates to compare & give you score wise trend. So we present a generalist view:
  • 159+ scorers can expect maximum interview appearances
  • Those with 147- 155 may look at our notings for ‘Above 150’
  • If you have scored between 135 – 145, see our explanation given for ‘above 130’

I don't want to wait

The above suggestions are only for those who are worried about paying fees to apply but not getting shortlisted for Interview.

Incase you have scored between 130 -145, cant decide on looking previous cutoffs & is not bothered about spending money - here is a solution:
  • Set aside Rs.3000 & apply for all the remaining banks, you are eligible for.

Apply for IBPS PO exam 2012

Those with scores less than 130 (Gen) or 120 (OBC) – if you serious in wanting to become a bank PO, we would recommend you to register for the June 2012 PO exam, just to be on the safer side,

Incase you get a call for Interviews before the exam & get appointed, its well & good.
If not, prepare well for the exam to enhance your score for upcoming bank jobs in future.
People looking to improve your scores also can register for the the 2nd IBPS PO common exam & post better marks.Since the last date to submit applications is March 30, don't be late to take a decision.

Since 1.1 lakh candidates have been qualified, we strongly believe the total number of PO vacancies to be around 17 – 19,000.On this basis, we have charted the above possibilities.

IBPS Clerk Scores: State wise Expected Cutoffs

It has been nearly 2 weeks since the clerical common exam results were announced by IBPS & scores have been made available on their website. But candidates are still restless & are more worried than before. The biggest cause of worry is due to the non availability of the exact number of candidates within a specific score.

BankExamsIndia.com had conducted a poll asking readers to select their clerk exam score (see 5.3 lakh clear clerk exam). Here are its results:

ibps clerk scores poll results, ibps clerk exam cutoffs 2012,am i eligible for clerk interview, bank jobs clerks interview
Cut off Expected....
As per the poll,
  • 48% are within TWS of 130 – 160
  • 31% have secured 160 – 190
  • 10% are between 100 –130
  • 3% in the scale of 190 – 210
  • 5% above 210 (so many toppers? cant believe!)
Total votes polled: 17225 (highest among any website)

These findings are only indicative & cant be considered final untill IBPS merit list is out.Especially after seeing the difference in no. of votes for 190 –210 & above 210, we believe few may have voted just for fun!

State level cutoffs

At the time of IBPS common exam, candidates were asked to apply for any one state. In addition to it, public banks may also ask for proficiency in local language
By that rule, you wont be able to apply for clerical vacancies in other states apart from the one which you had opted.
Hence there is a high possibility for banks to fix state-wise & category wise cutoffs for Interview based on the no. of vacancies & applications received for each state. The point to note here is, candidates wont be able to know these cutoff score at the time of applying.

What is my chance?

We see a lot of candidates asking about their interview chances by posting TWS across many websites.

It is too early to predict or analyze the possibilities as no bank has notified clerk recruitments till now.But we would like to present a generalist view on this,
  • If you have scored below 170 (Gen,OBC) or 160 (others) & are concerned about paying fees for every recruitment – wait for the first 2 banks to fix interview cutoffs.
  • Based on it, decide from which bank you could apply.
  • If your score is lower than 140, be ready to wait longer as top scorers would be favorites in most banks.
  • Due to statewise cutoffs, the competition gets limited within that particular state enabling people with lower TWS in that region to look for their chance.
After few banks come out with notifications, we shall post a detailed outlook just like IBPS PO score analysis

Demand for score list grows

From the time IBPS released PO exam results aspirants have been hoping to see the Institute also publish the number of candidates within a particular score.
Now with the clerical results also out, this demand has only grown louder as many candidates are growing insecure about their chances of interview selection.
The only available data is of the lowest score which is 120 (Gen) & 105 (others). Again nobody knows how many are in this range.

* So on behalf of candidates, BankExamsIndia.com requests IBPS to seriously consider revealing the statistics as it would prevent spread of rumors & most importantly, they will be able to gauge the competition themselves for bank jobs

Untill then, we hope our poll results would help you.
