What is it? 

An officer in a bank will have to write letters, prepare reports or send views & opinions to higher officials as & when required.

So descriptive paper as part of banking exams aims to check the english language proficiency of applicants.

Last year, many candidates failed to secure pass marks in descriptive paper making them ineligible to apply for bank jobs. How?

If you do not clear or score qualifying marks in any objective section – your descriptive test paper will not be taken up for evaluation. Apart from securing minimum marks in each objective test, its also necessary to pass in descriptive test to receive scorecard from IBPS.

Pattern:

As you can see from the image,

1. The time allotted for descriptive section is 60 minutes (1 hour)
2. It carries a maximum weightage of 25 marks

The formula to calculate total weighted score (TWS) is:
Standard scores in (Reasoning + Quantitative aptitude + General awareness + Computer knowledge + ½ English language + ½ Descriptive paper)

The word count specified in the question is important as you will have to write the answers on the question paper itself, within the space provided.

Books:

Whatever be the exam, preparatory books act as source of reference.Here is a good book from Kiran prakashan with model practice sets, that can be bought online or from your local bookstore.

In detail:

A general rule that must be followed while answering is not to make spelling mistakes. Now let us see what type of questions could be asked in each category. 

Letter writing: There shall be internal choices for this part.You will be asked to write a letter to someone you know (parents, friend, relation etc) or to an authority informing about certain issues.

Prepare for atleast two formats, so you can answer one based on the question.

Essay writing: A topic/title is given based on which you need to write an essay in about 250 words.This is also an internal choice question wherein three topics shall be provided for you to choose any one.

It is not possible to memorize articles beforehand.So pick up a random topic related to banking, finance, current affairs etc.,& practice writing.Here is our list, which you can try:

Precis Writing: Read the given article of atleast 500 words, understand its meaning, summarize & make a precis (shorter version).The only requirement is – do not change the meaning of the original passage.

For practicing - take a long newspaper report, leave unnecessary details, pick points that are important & write a summary.Compare both to make sure you have not deviated from the original article.

IBPS Common Exam for Regional Rural Bank Jobs in Sep 2012

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection is all set to conduct another common written exam.But this is for a different category called the Regional rural banks, which are mainly present in rural areas & provides banking facilities to people in those areas.Similar to the CWE for PO & Clerks in commercial banks, IBPS has announced the 1st common exam for jobs in rural banks.

The idea of a common eligibility test was mooted by the govt which we reported in the month of March 2012 itself.In the months that followed the proposal was given shape by NABARD & IBPS has been entrusted with the charge of conducting, evaluating & publishing results for these bank jobs.

There are 82 rural banks in India & those qualifying in this test would be given score cards with which they can apply for Officer (Sc I,II,III) & Office assistant positions in desired organization.
  

Dates:

Online registrations of applications – June 1 to 25, 2012
Written exam:

Officers – September 2, 2012 
Office Assistants – September 9, 2012

Fee payment (online): 1.06.2012 – 25.06.2012
Offline fee payment from June 1 – June 30, 2012

What is the eligibility?

You must satisfy the following conditions, as on June 1, 2012

• Should have completed degree (any discipline) from a recognized university
• Must posses proficiency in local language of the state where RRB is located.
  • pass in local language at matric/std. X level

Agelimit: (max. age +3 yrs for OBC, +5 yrs for SC/ST)

• between 18 – 28 yrs for Office assistant
• Scale I officer: above 18 & below 28 yrs

Selection:

The IBPS common bank exam shall contain objective type questions for a total of 200 marks.The pattern is the same for Officers & Office assistants, while scale II,III have few extra papers.

For every wrong answer in the objective test, negative mark of 0.25 would be reduced.

Scorecards:

The scorecards (valid for 1 year) shall be sent to candidates who secure a minimum qualifying score in each paper.

Each bank will specify their own eligibility (that includes age, degree & test score) while calling for applications.

Using this card, you can apply to banks that advertise their vacancies for officer & assistant posts.

Registration:

The application fees are fixed at Rs.50 (SC/ST) or Rs.450 (others) for Officers & for Office assistants, its Rs.50 (SC/ST/PWD/EXSM) & Rs.350 (others) with the following options of payment,

1. Online: (from Jun 1 – 25): Visit ibps.in & click on the online application to fill the necessary details.After submitting the form, you would be directed to the online fee payment gateway.
   • Pay the appropriate fee amount using netbanking/credit or debit cards
   • After the transaction is complete, print the generated e-receipt
   • If application submission is successful, a registration number & password would be shown that has to be noted.
2. Offline: (from June 1 – Jun 30): Logon to ibps.in & visit IBPS RRB CWE webpage to fill the online application.Enter the required details & hit submit.
   • On submitting the application, note the generated Reg.no & password (also will be sent to your Email/ SMS)
   • Take a print of the challan that shall be generated after the above step.
   • After 2 days, deposit the fees at any branch of BOB, BOI, PNB, IOB, United bank of India or Central Bank of India using the printed challan
   • As a confirmation of paying fees, you will receive Email/SMS after 2 days.
   • After 3 days from date of payment, login with your reg.no & pwd & print the application that contains your filled-in details.

Punjab & Sind Bank Specialist Officers Recruitment 2012

Punjab & Sind Bank has announced plans for the recruitment of Specialist Officers across scales.The bank was formed in 1908 which was nationalised during the late 1980`s.With head office in New Delhi & zonal offices across the nation, PSB has a strong presence in the northern parts of India.


PSB seems to want the high scoring candidates to apply for its specialist officer posts. With very few announcements till now for these positions, all the 16000 qualifiers of IBPS common exam would be eager to see more banks join the bandwagon.

• Those having computer knowledge would be given preference.

Language officer

• Must have 2 yrs experience in the field of translation

There is no minimum TWS score required for any posts & hence qualified candidates with a valid IBPS scorecard are eligible to apply.

Selection:

The process of shortlisting is no different for specialist officers from PO or clerks.PSB will call only those who rank sufficiently higher as per IBPS TWS scores.

Since the ratio of selection is not known it could depend on the no. of vacancies & applications received for each post.

Syndicate Bank Clerk Recruitment – 1000 Posts | Apply Online

Syndicate Bank has come out with its advertisement for recruitment of clerks through IBPS common exam scores.Formed in 1925, the bank is one among the 19 public sector banks in India.With headquarters in Manipal, its branches are present across many important states & towns.

Syndicate bank had earlier announced recruitment of 1750 PO in April 2012, but the results are yet to see its light due to some legal issues.While many banks are fast finalizing appointments - it has to been seen how long will this bank take.

Monthly salary would be Rs.14,070 at metro cities.

Allahabad Bank has announced come up with its recruitment of Specialist officers in various departments.Formed in 1865 & nationalised in the year 1969, this is one among the oldest public sector banks of India. Selection process

Depending on the number of vacancies, only a limited number of candidates sorted as per their scores shall be shortlisted for next stage.

The bank may conduct group discussion & Interview or either of the two.The interview would be conducted for 30 marks, while you must score 12 marks (gen) or 10 (others) for consideration into final list.

PNB Management Trainee Recruitment - Interview Call Out!

Punjab National Bank had invited applications to fill 775 management trainee posts in the month of February.It was one of the first banks to advertise their vacancies through IBPS common bank exam.But the call for interview is being released only now taking over 3 months time.
 
Since PNB has only finalized this list for interviewing after 4 months of closing registrations, there exists a doubt in the availability of those selected people.

If it contains names of candidates already chosen by previous banks it is bound to create more confusion.

Who got the chance?

The results doc lists roll numbers & names of 2565 candidates.It also contains information about the interview schedule that can be downloaded from their site here

All those who find their names in the above file – remember to take a print of your interview call letter from PNB`s website after a week.The bank will not send them to your address by post.So keep a close eye of their website in the coming days.

Most importantly, the cutoffs have not been specified by Punjab national bank.

About the Interview

Personal Interview process is scheduled to happen across Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chandigarh & Lucknow from June 18 –22.

This would mean candidates from nearby towns/cities have to make travel plans in advance so as to reach their allotted centre well in time.

The interview will carry 100 marks & one has to secure 40 marks for qualifying in this stage.For final selection, your CWE marks would be combined with the above to prepare a merit list.

Trainees thus chosen will have to execute a service bond agreeing to stay with the bank for 3 years or pay 2.00 lakhs incase of quitting.

Bank of India Clerk Recruitment 2012 – See Interview Cutoffs!

Bank of India today released the notice calling for Interviews as part of its clerical recruitment project 2011-12.It was one of the first banks to announce hiring after IBPS completed their common exam for clerical cadre positions. Read on to know more about the selection process & the way forward..

To fill 3149 clerk vacancies (largest till now), Bank of India had invited online applications from IBPS qualified - scorecard holders in the month of April 2012. The minimum TWS score was fixed for each state category wise apart from the sectional score of 24 (Gen) & 21 (others)

In addition to this, graduates & HSC pass-outs were also eligible to apply.

How many?

BoI has shortlisted 12199 candidates for Interviews based on their TWS score that was specified earlier in their advertisement.Although the list contains the roll no & applicant`s state – there is no info about their categories.

Interviews are scheduled to start from June 11, 2012 & call letters for the same can be printed from June 1 directly at BOI`s website from a link that would be activated next month.

What is the cutoff?

• The bank has called candidates from each category in the ratio of 1:3
• Cutoffs for General & OBC are same for many states, while few have higher OBC scores.
• This has proved OBC cutoffs need not be always lower than gen, as believed by some bank job aspirants.

Bank of India Officers Recruitment – for North East Vacancies

Bank of India has published a notification for recruitment of officers in North east states.BOI, one of India`s largest public sector bank was nationalised in the year 1969.The bank is spread across the country with over 3100 branches & 48 zonal offices, apart from 29 foreign branches.

This special recruitment project 2012-13 from Bank of India is only for vacancies in North East states - Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Sikkim & Tripura.

Candidates from other states can also apply but initial posting would be at the above said places only.

From the applications received, Bank of India would shortlist only those candidates in the ratio of 1:3 & those who and rank sufficiently high in the order of merit.

While the total marks for Interview shall be 100 marks, minimum qualifying is 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC)

Banks had agreed to lower the application fees in a recent meeting.Accordingly Bank of India seems to have implemented as the fee is fixed at Rs.100 (Gen/OBC) & Rs.20(SC/ST)

IBPS Specialist Officers CWE; Cutoffs Released

The bank recruitment space is buzzing with activity.While public banking majors are busy announcing PO & clerk vacancies, Institute of Banking Personnel Selection is occupied with conducting exams & publishing results.The 2012 specialist officers exam results were notified today by IBPS.

On the lines of common written examinations for probationary officer & clerk posts, IBPS had also conducted a similar test for specialist officers.

In this article you will know about the following

• Cutoffs

Accordingly, the 1st specialist officer CWE was held on March 11, 2012 for the following posts

IT officer, Agriculture officer, Rajbhasha adhikari, Law officer, Technical officer, HR/personnel officer, Marketing officer, IT officer & Law officer

Each had a set of educational qualifications to satisfy & applicants were tested on their knowledge about the subject opted for.The written tests would fetch a total of
200 marks & 0.25 will be reduced for each wrong answer as negative mark.

These marks are converted into standardized scores & minimum cutoff score for each test is fixed.Those scoring above this cutoff are treated as pass, while others are considered as fail.

16000 for 4000 Posts

As per a report in businessline, about 16099 candidates have managed to clear the CWE which was attended by approx. 3 lakh.The breakdown is,

As expected, IT officer post garnered the maximum no. of registrations but the no. of qualifiers are less compared to Marketing officer cadre.

IBPS director has said that a total of 4000 specialist officer vacancies could exist across 19 public banks.

So keeping this mind, the cutoffs might have been fixed leading to such small group being selected for the next stages.

Cutoff Calculations

The institute has revealed the methods adopted to fix minimum qualifying marks for specialist officer test.

As per it, cutoffs were applied on 2 scores

1. Individual test paper
2. Total weighted standard score (TWSS)

So if a candidate has secured the qualifying score of 24 (gen)/ 21 (others) in all sections but failed to cross the TWSS cutoff, he/ she would become ineligible.

With the IBPS specialist officer exam results being released – the recruitment ads of public banks can also be expected from May/ June 2012.

Bank of Baroda & Allahabad Bank - PO Final Results Out!!

A sudden rush of events in the month of May seems to be panning out.Public banks are pushing out interview calls & final results every second day.Today its the turn of Bank of Baroda & Allahabad Bank to announce their prospective list of people selected for appointment as POs.

Just last week, UCO bank along with Bank of India came out with their final results.With clerical recruitment process in the offing, banks may be looking to wrap up PO activity as soon as possible.

Bank of Baroda Results

One of the most expected notification, Bank of Baroda called for applications from IBPS CWE qualified candidates to fill 600 probationary officer vacancies in the month of February 2012.

BOB followed it up by calling 2900 candidates for interviews that were held from April 16 to 23.The cutoffs fixed were 174 (gen),167 (OBC) were one of the highest till now.Exactly a month later, the bank has finalized the persons found eligible for the post of PO.

Confirm joining:
Similar to UCO bank, Bank of Baroda has also asked selected candidates to confirm by submitting the joining date (June 25 or July 23) on their website from May 23 – 25.

Allahabad Bank Final Results

In February 2012, Allahabad Bank notified recruitment of 1600 PO for graduates possessing valid IBPS scorecards.The minimum tws score was fixed at 125 for Gen. category & 112 for others.

Later in the month of March, interviews sessions were announced to be conducted for shortlisted applicants from April 16.The cutoffs stood at 166 (gen) & 162 (OBC) but the no. of people who were invited was not available.

Based on the performance of candidates in CWE & interviews, a merit list has been prepared ranking the top scorers.

Reporting on May 3:
According to the official list made public today by the bank it has been specified as,

Letters initiating selection have already been dispatched to respective people & they will have to report on May 31st at the given venue for completing joining formalities.

UCO Bank & Bank of India PO Recruitment – Final Results Out!!

Its time for some to become bankers as UCO Bank & Bank of India have released the final results of their respective PO recruitments.During the months of March/ April 2012, these banks had conducted interviews for those shortlisted through their IBPS CWE scores.

This news is sure to bring some cheer to aspirants who were waiting with bated breath to know their status.Interestingly, all these announcements are out within days of a meeting between banks & IBPS – that saw some important decisions being taken which we covered in the post ‘changes coming in selection process’.

UCO Bank Results

A total of 1100 PO vacancies was advertised as part of UCO Bank recruitment project. As per selection procedure, approximately 6100 candidates were called for Interviews held from April 23 –28.

Exactly 1100 candidates have been found eligible for appointment as PO & their names, roll.no., category etc can be had from the official list here

The appointment letter along with necessary instructions & formalities would be sent shortly, says the bank release.


Confirm within 7 days
To discourage candidates sitting on offers for long periods, UCO bank has devised a method.

If you are selected & wish to join the bank on June 14, 2012 – the bank is instructing you to send an email conveying the decision to join within 7 days (from May 17) to ucoporec2012@gmail.com along with your ‘Name’ & ‘Roll.No.’

Bank of India Results:

The recruitment for 1800 General banking officers (scale I) was announced by Bank of India in January 2012.

After sorting applications based on CWE scores, BoI shortlisted around 5820 candidates for personal interviews that began on March 26, 2012.

Vijaya Bank has released the notification for recruitment of probationary officers & is inviting applications from IBPS CWE qualified candidates.Established in the year 1931 & nationalised in 1980, Vijaya bank is considered as one of the leading small sized public sector bank in India.

Who can apply? 

Vijaya bank has framed the following eligibility conditions, which applicants must satisfy.They are,

• Age to be minimum 20 yrs & max. 30 yrs, as on July 1, 2011
• Should have completed graduation from a recognized univ. (final yrs. & those waiting for results are not eligible to apply)
• Must posses a valid IBPS scorecard with the following score in the CWE 2011
  • General:138 & above (24+ in each subject)
  • SC/ST/OBC/PWD: 113 & above (21+ in each subject)

Selection through Merit:

PO posts in Vijaya bank shall be filled through an Interview for which applicants will be shortlisted based on their CWE scores.

The minimum scores mentioned above is just for eligibility purpose.And the bank shall select only those candidates with high scores who have applied for this recruitment.

The selection procedure may include Group discussion along with Interview.In such cases, the max. marks for GD would be 50 marks & for Interview, shall be 100 marks.

Changes Coming in Bank Selections;To Restrict Multiple Offers

It seems there is light at the end of the tunnel for candidates with low scores in the IBPS conducted common written examination (CWE).Banks have decided to place a check on those who despite being selected in one or more banks, still appear for interviews in other banks.

A slew of proposals were discussed and decisions have been taken in last weeks`s meeting  attended by the IBPS, HR heads of public banks & Indian banks association, reports BL

As a result of it - the following changes have been agreed upon

• To put off graduation eligibility for clerks
• Reduce fee charges
• To restrict multiple selections
• To maintain adequate no. under waitlist status

Non-Graduation for Clerks

Earlier this month, few banks which announced clerical recruitment had fixed graduation as minimum educational qualification to apply.It was in relation with Khandelwal committee`s recommendation submitted to govt last year.Candidates without a degree but have qualified in the clerical CWE expressed shocked.

Now, it has been decided by banks to postpone the implementation of ‘graduates only’ rule for clerk posts.

By this move, non graduates would also become eligible to apply for clerical vacancies advertised this year.

Reduction in Fees

Before submitting the online applications applicants are to remit fees in the branches of recruiting banks.Since the fees are non-refundable candidates who aren't shortlisted for interviews were complaining of spending money for just applying.

Sensing discomfort, banks seem to have agreed on reducing the charges to Rs.100 from Rs.200 & Rs.20 from Rs.50.

But its not known for which posts (PO or clerk) this change would be effective but is a welcome move

Multiple Offers

There were heated arguments about multiple selections offered by banks to a section of top scorers, while others could not even secure a single call for interviews.The delay caused by these people in joining should have made banks to arrive at a decision.

Banks have decided to

• Minimize the joining time to 3 weeks
• Maintain adequate no. of candidates in waiting list
• Award the offer to the next eligible candidate (from waiting list) if the selected person doesn't turn up
• To conduct interviews for unfilled posts with already applied candidates (only if waitlist is exhausted)

The proposed changes would certainly bring cheer to the numerous young people aspiring for bank jobs.

Though registrations were over a month ago, some banks are yet to announce interviews.We believe the delay could be due to above reasons.

Central Bank of India PO Recruitment – 1000 Vacancies

Central Bank of India has released notification for 1000 PO recruitment project 2012. Established in 1911, the bank is amidst its centennial celebrations on completion of 100 years.One of the oldest public sector banks in India, currently it has over 4000 branches across 27 states with 36000+ employees.

Although most public banks have announced officer recruitments for CWE scorecard holders, only few have completed the process. While others are yet to issue cutoffs, Central bank has come out to hire.

Position:

Probationary Officer – 1000 posts (probation: 2 years)

Criteria:

It is necessary for applicants to fulfill each of the following eligible conditions,

* 20 – 30 yrs of age as on 01.07.2011 (max.age: +5yrs for SC/ST, +3yrs for OBC)
* Must be a Graduate (any degree) from a recognized university
* Certificate in computer awareness (min. 60 hrs course) from a reputed training centre is necessary (not for those with computers in degree level)

In addition, candidates must have secured following TWSS in the IBPS PO CWE 2011,

Selecting:

Based on the applications received, bank would fix an appropriate cutoff taking into around their scores so as to shortlist candidates for personal interview process in the ratio of 1:3 (unreserved) & 1:5 for reserved categories.

The total marks would be 50, while min.qualifying marks would be 25 (22.5 for reserved cat.)

The final selection shall be done through merit ranking based on exam & interview score.Those with top rank/ score will be offered appointment.

Dena Bank 500 PO Recruitment - Interview Cutoffs Released

Dena Bank has added buzz to this weekend by coming out with its interview schedule for recruitment of Probationary officers.Ever since the IBPS CWE came into effect, public banks have started to follow a different selection procedure.With no new notifications for PO`s, applicants who had submitted their applications previously were eagerly awaiting results & Dena bank has arrived within 30 days!
 
The online registrations for 500 PO vacancies in Dena bank closed on April 12.As per the notice, those with the following IBPS CWE score were eligible to apply.

• minimum of 130 for general category & 125 for others

What`s the Cutoff

Based on the no. of application received, cutoffs have been fixed by following the minimum ratio of 1:4 [1:5 for reserved cat.] The category wise TWS scores are

Results:

The results document shows the roll number of over 5000 shortlisted candidates along with their interview details, which can be downloaded from their site here.

About the Interview

The interview process carries 100 marks & candidates have to secure atleast 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC) to qualify for final selection.

Recruited officers must execute a bond agreeing to serve the bank for 3 years or pay 1.50 lakh incase of quitting.
